Brass & Woodwind Instructor

Brooklyn United Music and Arts Program  is looking to hire a woodwind and brass  instructor who is able to teach a wide array of musical skills to students of all ages that range from beginner to advanced. The ideal candidate will be one who is a well-rounded musician, enthusiastic, passionate and can draw on their own experiences during lessons. There are also opportunities for ensemble instruction, as well as working at our summer camps.

**Ability to teach additional instruments is a plus and highly valued** 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Teach group lessons to students between the ages of 5-18

  • Develop effective lesson plans for in-person lessons

  • Motivate student growth and music-making, and track student progress.

  • Effectively communicate with students, their families, and other staff

  • Attend recitals, competitions and exhibitions including work on weekends

  • Up to 25% travel required

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music

  • Multiple years of private teaching experience can be used in place of degree

  • Experience teaching youth in an urban environment


Theater Instructor

You will be responsible for teaching and training a dynamic group of students, ensuring that all students are engaged, motivated, and inspired to achieve outstanding results.

Job Description:

  • Drama/Theater Instructors are responsible for planning and leading structured activities for students in grades elementary through high school

  • Successfully lead activities with groups of up to 20 students

  • Effectively manage the classroom and address student behavior issues in a positive, professional manner

  • Communicate clearly and positively with students, co-workers, and supervisors

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of prior experience teaching or facilitating group activities with students;

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • College coursework in the areas of education, youth development, or drama preferred

  • Available to work during all of the hours of the program, including nights and weekends

Drum Instructor

Engage students to practice, play and perform introduced materials.

  • Attend all rehearsals, sectionals, and performances, actively participating in assisting students in sectionals and whole group rehearsals.

  • Teach drumline basics, i.e. warm-ups, marching techniques and stick work.

  • Teach cadences for marching/playing at athletic, school and community events

  • Work with the director during auditions and provide input into placement of students on particular instruments of the drumline.

  • Work with the drill writer to check the positioning of the drumline in each musical selection

  • Monitor and control student behavior according to established procedures

  • Maintain inventories of percussion supplies, materials and equipment.

  • Adjust and maintain percussion instruments ensuring timely availability for student use.

  • Be able to work outdoors and indoors; exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Band Director

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

  • Strong background in marching band, percussion performance. Drum corps or university marching

  • band experience preferred

  • Experience in the various sub groups of the percussion section (e.g. snare, bass, tenors, mallets, etc)

  • Previous experience with instructing/teaching percussion

  • Ability to inspire students, building enthusiasm and love of the subject

  • Ability to tune/replace drum heads and do minor repairs on drumline equipment

  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, administrators, and community members

  • Maintain high level of ethical behavior and exercise good judgment in making decisions

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to interact with students of different age and skill level in a positive and professional manner.

Dance Instructor

Brooklyn United Music and Arts Program is looking to hire a passionate dance instructor to join our team. You will be responsible for teaching and training a dynamic group of students in a range of techniques and dance styles, ensuring that all students are engaged, motivated, and inspired to achieve outstanding results.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to teach using various dance styles and methodologies from beginner to advanced level

  • Develop dance curriculums and prepare lesson plans

  • Ability to communicate with a diverse group of students, parents and teachers

  • Evaluate student performance and make recommendations for improvement

  • Choreograph routines and select music for performances

  • Provide a fun and creative environment

Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience required

Site Supervisor

Brooklyn United Music and Arts Program is seeking a site supervisor to run our programs and manage the daily operations of our facility. The ideal candidate has experience in working at a music and arts program and at least 2-3 years of supervisory experience.

This position is limited to internal staff and those who have a deep knowledge of Brooklyn United’s business model, mission, operations and organizational culture. 

Job Requirements:

  • Oversee day to day operations of the facility

  • Provide for site safety and security; devise and implement site policies and procedures

  • Supervise and evaluate staff; complete employee reviews; keep accurate records of employee attendance and timesheets

  • Interview candidates; onboard and train new hires

  • Set project goals and oversee projects to completion; schedule and track assignments

  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality

  • Supervise site staff including instructors and administrative staff

  • Communicate with parents, vendors and business contacts

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Previous experience as a site supervisor at an after school program, tutoring program or comparable site

  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, administrators, and community members

  • Maintain high level of ethical behavior and exercise good judgment in making decisions

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
